Appreciating good design is a normal habit among designers.
Good design is all about knowing to construct or build the things you are creating.
Once i've had a workshop manager , he used to complain alot about how i would put my idea across as we discussed what is best for the interior. As usual i would sketch my idea through some cut out plywood lying on the floor and often he would make similar remarks again and again " this is what i,'m afraid of when your idea just flows, you flick your pencil like a sword and i have to think of a way how to construct " , as usual we just laugh it out together.
It is easy to be creative and plant and plan ideas across the drawing board but it sure needs alot of thinking how to make the plan works.
Designers have the habit of doing or creating "something different" , this differences usually pair with a new challenges of new constructing and this new construction will sometimes ended with new fixtures and fittings being built, special order. Now you know why designers project is more expensive than the layman or contractor.
And contractors have the habit of using our (designer) ideas to their 'cheap' client and those contractors would pretend to be designers. Be careful if such contractors show you some new tricks, probably he stole from us ( designers). How do you know that the contractors are not designers? Just asked them to specify and calculate the materials load against the fixtures and fittings proposed, that's how.Contractors can fix things, but they are not trained to specify or calculate load.
Let me further give you a scenario :
Lets start from a huge colourful marble slab that you are are thinking to hang or embedded it in a hotel reception front.
First we need to know where to source the material, secondly we need to know how the marble is cut and making sure it is not broken by making sure of it's characteristics ( not all marble are compact in formation as more lines is a sign of impurities and the weakest part in the marble ), then after a good production of the marble either in polish or unpolish form ( the designer will have to decide ) mounting the marble is another.
Mounting marble on walls is a task of great detailing. Usually metal fittings is embedded inside the wall is recommended. Using adhesive is much refrain because adhesive do not help in vibration test. ( refer to attached drawing)
Until today among many aspects of designing an interior, incorporating good fittings and construction is still the main barometer to measure a designer's skill
Executing with unexpected material as functional architectural feature like this staircase has become great challenge for real designers.
Here i must confess that architect has a leading niche compared to interior designers. They are those who are responsible in creating glass , metal and stones cladding to building exterior without neglecting safety . Making them a fore runner in this industry.
The result is stunning simply because it makes the interior unique, different and unexpectedly brave. Brave to the designer as well as to the occupier.

Hingga saat ini di antara banyak aspek merancang interior, menggabungkan fitting dan konstruksi yang unggul dan baru masih menjadi barometer utama untuk mengukur keterampilan desainer.

Hasilnya menakjubkan bukan hanya karena itu saja tetapi iya membuat interior atau ruangan menjadi unik, berbeda dan tak terduga berani. Berani untuk desainer serta penghuni.
