Kitchen

Kitchen is the most strenous and dangerous place to be in a house. This is where many mishap would happen basically because there  are 'machines and furnaces' just like a mini workshop.

Therefore , it is your duty to ensure proper planning and construction evolve in this area.

As far as efficiency is concerned , the space between the stove, sink and refridgerator ( the triangle working space) are the main measurement.
The closer they are to each other , the efficient it would be for the user ( mother )

Determining height for these furniture is the second most crucial.

A height to mould and knead is best at 60 ( sixty) cm in height, because the hand stretches to its maximum length.

The standard kitchen tabletop for European standard is 85 cm , where else Asian is best at 75 cm .

The first top shelves to keep all the necessary fast reaching ingredients is advised at 150 cm while the highest reachable shelf is 200 cm , beyond that , it is advised not to do any cabinet because of safety purposes.

Materials used for kitchen cabinet can be divided into three categories :

1) Carcass

2) Door panels or front and

3) Kitchen table top

For most European furniture , their carcass are made from mdf ( medium density fibre board) this kind of material suit best for them because of their weather condition , whereas in Asia it is not highly recommended because our weather is extreme both in dry and wet season , to make matter worst, the way we treat our kitchen is more strenous than how the European treated theirs simply because of our cuisines.

In contact with water mdf boards bloated . Mdf board is best substituted with blockboard or plywood. These material withstand heavy usages occurring in Asian cooking, especially preparing chinese cuisines , with high pressured flame burning constantly on the wok.

As for cabinet front or panels, we shared the same. Materials range from favourite solid hard wood, lamination ,  framed glass, marquetry in veneer ( skin of selected wood made into intricate design)panel and plywood or mdf lacquered spray panelling.

For table top the varities are by far widest.Marble, granite, ceramic tile, mosaics, lamination on plywood, blackboard and mdf board and synthetic marble , one of those are a product of Formica and Dupont ( corian ). These marble like material is so durable and flexible that it can moulded into a sink of any shapes and sizes seamless too !!.The disadvantages are prices and it tends to crack from heat from the stove's heat , but replacement is very easy.

Where walls and floor is concerned high duty ceramic tiles are the favourite. As the nature of all kitchen are oily and greasy, porous materials like terracotta is much recommended . Wooden floor are not recommended but if it is favoured, high matt lacquered finish is best used.

Standard equipment like sink, stove, fridge, oven and dishwasher covers another different agenda as it is rather technical to disscuss in here.

Many brand offers a different specification .Ariston, Technogas, Bosch, Miele, Amana, Samsung, Kelvinator, AEG, and my favourite De Dietrich.

Cooker hood is a very important item in the kitchen but many are not aware of it's real function, construction and specification.

Cooker hood that is sold in the market is a compact version incorporating , fan , filter and miniature ducting. The whole concept of cooker hood will fail if either one of these elements are miscalculated.European kitchen do not comes into this scrutiny because it's cooking does not come into heavy exposure of hot boiling oil all the time.

The common failure is the installation and specification of ducting being too small with too many bend.A good ducting is best straight vertical upwards just like a chimney, but none has installed such because this method would compromise the  aesthetic aspect of the kitchen.

The other aspect that makes a kitchen fails is the installation of good lighting. Kitchen is a practical area that requires light intensity of 200 lux. A direct lighting with lights installed under the top cabinet reaching the kitchen top at a mere distance of 70 cm will definetly help to achieve such intensity . If general lighting ( ceiling lights) were to be commisioned , unnecessary brightness will be resulted to the entire kitchen area.

As kitchen has the highest traffic flow with highest activities , this area requires alot of scrutiny for safety and comfort .
